Urban Animism 1984

Animism is the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence.
Animism perceives all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, human handiwork,
and in some cases words—as animated and alive. Wikipedia

  1: The Invocation. Using Jessie Jackson 1984 democratic nomination speech in San Francisco. with my music.
  2: Machines. (ghost in the machine?)
  3: S.F. Nocturne. One of my early experiments with mixing field recordings with music. The San Francisco Cable car sounds were recorded on the S.F. Powell St. cable car line.
  4: Pipes 1. This is a set of 10 hand cut 1/2 in. anodized aluminum pipes "tuned" to themselves (N+1" difference in length) between some of the pipes were
       suspended wooden rings agitated by a fan. Reprocessed 12/23
  5: Pipes 2. Processed as recorded (real time)..
  6: Night* is a recording of experiments in improvised live performance of electronic music by a
   single performer/controller pre-computer (MIDI) control. The most psychedelic piece I have on record.

  * Also titled "Animal Night"
  My "day job" was Building Maintenance in the South of Market Area (SOMA).
  Industrial by day rough trade (dive bars) at night.
  During the winter months I would arrive at work during the early morning predawn and leave in the evening darkness.
  A whole different life came to light in the Night.

 Recorded at Lion's Main Music Productions San Francisco 1984
